5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.
MENU
You probably won’t find them in the produce section of your mainstream supermarket, which proudly displays perfectly stacked rows of circular-shaped, orange or red, blemish-free tomatoes. Deemed by some, the “ugly tomato,” heirlooms at a glance are a variety only a mother could love. From gigantic to miniscule, round to oval to grossly misshapen, these cultivars come in all sorts of shapes, sizes and colors. But don’t let their odd appearance fool you. One bite and you’ll fall in love with what lies beneath the surface. Whether sweet, tart, juicy or firm, heirlooms are savory beauties whose flavor is as varied and unique as their names - Green Zebra, Hillbilly, Mortgage Lifter, Black Krim, Jubilee and Brandywine, to name a few. Opinions vary, but generally, to be considered an heirloom a tomato must be open-pollinated and grown from seed that has produced the same variety over several generations (since at least 1940). Now that’s a taste of history!

Regional Dinner: Puglia
Thursday, July 26th
6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.
MENU
If Italy is shaped like a high-heeled boot then Puglia is the elegant and enticing stiletto heel. Quite befitting, as its regional cuisine is often touted as the “cucina delle donne,” or, “women’s kitchen.” Indeed, the women of Puglia enchanted their suitors with personal versions of local recipes using a dash of this and a pinch of that to add their final, triumphant touch. A dry, harsh climate with scant fresh water, Puglia’s cuisine is also referred to as “cucina povera,” or “poor cuisine.” Lacking abundant resources, the local diet consisted largely of pasta without eggs, wild vegetables and roots foraged on the stony terraces and fish from the surrounding seas. On Thursday, July 26th, Chef Fabio will enlighten your palate with a unique menu featuring Puglia’s regional fare. Can he live up to the women’s prowess in the kitchen? We’ll let you be the judge… Oh, and ladies, don’t forget your stilettos.
